Paradox can provide a compiled version for the new Mac CPUs and a lot of those issues will go away, but I haven't heard anything about that happening or expected to happen. If you remove the ships, or solve the reason why they are congregating (in one game I saw it was because the AI was at war with an empire it had no access to the remaining system, thus they all stacked up in 1 spot), the crash should stop.Īs for M1s generally, a lot of these crashes are because of the way Apple has decided to migrate to their new CPU, by creating an "instruction translator" that translates from the applications original instruction set to one that works on their new CPU. The aura system has a stack overflow within it, that is created by large numbers of ships generating auras * large numbers of ships receiving auras (in a single system). If you go into oberserver mode and look around, you will likely find a system that has a giant stack of AI ships sitting in one system. That could also explain the M1 specificity, as the overflow cap on Macs may be lower.įYI, this is one of the known (to me at least, and I posted to the forum) crashes related to ship auras. This makes me think it's maybe related to the series of overflow errors brought up by the gigastructure guys. This time it finally gives me a useful error log. I did a little more debugging (ran the program using lldb). Play corrupted save game on M1, to specific "crash date". This seems to be related to a family of M1 chip computer crashes dating back to at least 2021.
